Hurricanes Defeat Lancers, 12-6

In their first road trip of the year, the Louisburg College baseball team looked to keep their undefeated record going as they took on the Lancers of Lenoir Community College Wednesday afternoon.   The Hurricanes had little trouble as they handed the Lancers their third loss of the season with a score of 12-6.  With the win, the 'Canes improved their record to 8-0.

Opening up the first inning, Louisburg was able to take an early 1-0 lead.  Steve Nyisztor took ball four to reach first, stole second then Zach Houchins' triple to right center brought in Nyisztor for an RBI.

With the score still 1-0 going in to the top half of the 3rd inning, Louisburg exploded offensively to plate 6 'Cane runs.  Chris Robinson opened the inning with a HPB.  Jake Watson was up to bat, when Robinson stole second base then advanced to 3rd on a single by Watson.  With 2 runners on, Nyisztor homered to left center for 3 RBI.  After a pitching change by Lenoir, Louisburg's Kyle McCrossen singled to center field.  Tucker Coward followed with a double to right center which sent McCrossen to third and brought Chris King to the plate.  Off of a single by King and Ayers, McCrossen and Coward were both plated.  Tyler Long got a RBI with a SAC fly to left field which scored the Canes final run of the inning as King scored.  LC had 6 runs, 6 hits, 0 errors and 1 left on base.

Lenoir remained quiet until the bottom of the 4th inning.  With Louisburg up 8-0, the Lancers scored 3 unearned runs on 2 'Canes errors to bring the score within 5.

The score at 8-3, the Hurricanes took no time adding their final four runs of the game in the 5th inning.  After a King double,  the 'Canes were able to capitalize and send King to third on a wild pitch.  Ayers walked, stole 2nd and an error by the Lancers catcher advanced Ayers to third and scored King.  With no outs, Tyler Long walked and advanced to second on a stolen bag.  After a Cane out, Watson followed with an RBI that advanced Long to third and scored Ayers.  Nyisztor followed with a single and an RBI, bringing Long home.  Houchins drove in Watson with a single to left field which completed the scoring for the 'Canes.

Lenoir would continue to put pressure on the Hurricanes, but saw their last run cross the plate in the bottom of the 6th.  The final three innings would remain scoreless for both teams as Louisburg took the game, 12-6.
