LC Blows Past Pitt CC
Tim Brechbuehler (5-0) pitched Louisburg to a convincing victory in Game 1 and teammate Tyler Long helped the 'Canes complete the Region X double-header sweep at Pitt Community College Saturday afternoon. Louisburg won the opener 4-0 and outlasted the Bulldogs 5-1 in the second game.
The Hurricanes improved to 25-0 and 2-0 in Region X. Pitt's record fell to 4-7 and 0-2 in conference play.
Game 1

Louisburg jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first when Pitt committed three of their four errors from the field. Steve Nyiszter reached on the first throwing error by Pitt setting up Zach Houchin's RBI double. Clean-up hitter Chris King's bat would imitate Nyisztor's advancing Houchins to third. Tucker Coward's grounder to second base was bobbled allowing Houchins to score the Hurricanes second run in the inning.
The 'Canes remained quiet until Tyler Long's long ball over right field in the fourth inning bringing in the third run of the game. Ayers would follow with a walk then make a trip around the bases on aground out by Jake Watson, a SAC fly by Steve Nyisztor before King's RBI single would bring him in.
Brechbuehler allowed no runs on three hits while walking two and striking out eight in 7 innings.
Long led Louisburg going 1-for-3 with one RBI and home run.
The Hurricanes never trailed in Game 2. The closest Pitt Community College ever came was within one run in the bottom of the fourth.
In the third, Louisburg took a 1-0 lead when Josh Bowerssingled and advanced to second on a SAC bunt to the pitcher by TJ Ehrsam. Jake Watson's ground out to second pushed Bowers to third then Steve Nyiztor's RBI single would plate Bowers.
In the fourth, singles from Houchins, Coward and Long (RBI) gave the Hurricanes a 2-0 lead. But the Bulldogs would threaten in the bottom of the fourth. Pitt's Vaugh singled and advanced to third on a SAC fly to right field and a fielder's choice to first base. The 'Canes would surrender Pitt's only run of the game on pitcher Cody Cox's wild pitch.
Game 2

Louisburg blew Game 2 open with three more runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Tyler Long was Louisburg's leading hitter, going 2-for-3 with one RBI. Houchins, who was named NJCAA Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 27th, went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and wound up 3-for-7 in the double-header.
Watson and Houchins singled, and King's RBI double would plate Watson and advance Houchins to third. Coward's HBP loaded the bases then Houchins would reach home on a wild pitch. Chris Robinson's RBI single scored King bringing the score to 4-1 ending the Hurricanes scoring run in the top of the seventh.
Cody Cox tossed five solid innings for the 'Canes. Cox (4-0) allowed just one run on three hits. He struck out five and walked one. Josh Roeder came in to get his sixth save of the season. He recorded two strikeouts and only one walk.
Game 3
Louisburg 3 Pitt CC 0
Kyle McCrossen batted 5-for-6 with two RBI in Sunday afternoon's double header to lead the Louisburg baseball team to back-to-back Region X victories over Pitt Community College and complete the four-game series sweep. The 'Canes won both games by score of 3-0.
Louisburg improved to 27-0 overall and 4-0 in Region X. PCC drops to 5-9, 0-4. In 28 innings, the 'Canes gave up just one earned run.
Louisburg's Tony Urban (5-0) earned the win by striking out six and allowing five hits in 6.2 innings pitched.
The Hurricanes, who outhit the Bulldogs on the day, 19-7, took a 2-0 lead in on a Augie Ayers 2 RBI single that plated Tucker Coward and Kyle McCrossen.
Louisburg tacked on one more run making it 3-0 in the fourth inning on McCrossen's RBI singlescoring Zach Houchins.
The closest Pitt would threaten would come in the bottom of the seventh inning when Urban gave up a back-to-back hits bringing the Bulldogs tying run to the plate. After setting down the next two batters, the 'Canes looked to relief pitcher Josh Roeder for the save. With two runners on and two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Roeder struck out the final batter of the game giving the Hurricanes a 3-0 victory. Roeder leads the team in saves with seven.
McCrossen went 3-for-3 with one RBI.
Game 4

Cody Johnson recorded his fifth win behind the stellar help of the 'Canes defense. The Hurricanes turned back-to-back-to-back double plays in the third, fourth and fifth innings while committing no errors in seven innings of work.
The Hurricanes were led by Kyle McCrossen's 2-for-3 performance with one RBI and a double. Tyler Long went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Louisburg scored two runs in the top of the third on a Chris King RBI single that plated Jake Watson. McCrossen's RBI double bounced off the center field wall bringing home King making it 2-0.
Pitt was never able to manufacture any runs and was held to a season-low two hits in seven innings.
The Hurricanes, currently ranked #3 in the National Junior College Athletic Association, have the week off before heading to Florence, South Carolina to take on Florence Darlington Tech next weekend for a four-game series.
