'Canes Add Another Win Over Stanly CC

 

Louisburg College used 12 hits and manufactured several runs to score a 7-1 victory over Stanly Community College on the road on Wednesday night.

The Hurricanes (23-0) won their second game on the road in as many trips, while Stanly drops to 5-14. Freshman Willie Sligh (3-0) earned his third win of the season, recording two strikeouts and allowing no runs through 2.2 innings. Redshirt Sophomore Daniel Hyatt pitched 2.1 innings, allowing only one hit.

Zach Houchins led the way offensively with a 3-for-5 day at the plate with two runs and two stolen bases with one RBI. The game extended his hitting streak to eight games.

Steve Nyisztor went 2-for-5 with one RBI.

Stanly's Nick Dunn (0-1) earned the loss by allowing three runs and eight hits through 7.0 innings.

The 'Canes did not take long to get on the scoreboard in the first on a single by Tucker Coward that plated Zach Houchins, who had reached via a single during his at bat.

LC manufactured a run in the top of the fifth as Augie Ayers singled and stole second.  Zach Houchin's RBI single scored Ayers and the 'Canes went up 2-0.

The Hurricanes put together a big inning in the top of the ninth, scoring four runs on four hits. Chris Robinson tallied two RBIs with a single. TJ Ehrsam, Nyisztor, and Houchins each contributed a hit in the inning.

Louisburg will remain on the road for a four-game region match-up against defending Region X champions, Pitt Community College.  The first game is slated to start at 1:00  p.m. on Saturday.
