Hurricanes Defeat Patrick Henry CC

Louisburg College baseball picked up their 4th Wednesday night, defeating visiting Patrick Henry Community College, 6-2.

UNC transfer, Tim Brechbuehler, made his first collegiate start and picked up the win. Brechbuehler tossed 5 innings allowing only 2 runs, 1 earned, on 1 hit while walking 3 and striking out 7.  After what seemed to be a shaky first inning that saw Patrick Henry score 2 runs on 3 walks, a double and 2 errors, Brechbuehler set down the next 12 hitters he faced in order.

After Patrick Henry jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, Louisburg's Jake Watson worked a lead-off walk and later scored on Tucker Coward's 2-out double inching the 'Canes to within 1.

With no runs scored in the top of the 2nd by Patrick Henry, Louisburg tied the game at 2 when Brandon Rawe and Augie Ayers both singled to start the frame.  Snooter Merryman then laid down a successful sac bunt advancing both runners.  Tyler Long followed with an RBI groundout to shortstop scoring Rawe from third.

The rest of the game was all Louisburg, as they took the lead for good in the home half of the 3rd inning.  Tucker Coward singled, Chris King walked, and Rawe crushed a 2- run double to right center.

The 'Canes added a run in the 6th inning, to increase the lead to 5-2.  Augie Ayers led off the inning with a base on balls.  After advancing to second on a ground out, Ayers took third on a wild pitch and later scored on Jake Watson's sacrifice fly to center

Louisburg completed the scoring in the 8th when Ayers opened the inning with a double to deep left center, stole 3B and scored on a wild pitch.

Daniel Hyatt, in his first appearance of the year, picked up the save for Louisburg throwing 4 innings of scoreless baseball.  Hyatt struck out 3 and walked none while facing one over the minimum for 4 innings.

The 'Canes return to action on Saturday when they host Lackawanna College in a double header starting at 12:00 p.m. at Frazier Field.  Both games on Saturday will be 7 innings while Sunday's match up will be 9.
