Baseball Routs Rappahannock In Double-header Sweep

 

Tyler Long struck for a homerun in Game 1 and Zach Houchins claimed his fifteenth homerun, a game-winning two-run walk off in Game 2 to lead the Louisburg baseball team to a non-region doubleheader sweep against Rappahannock Community College Saturday afternoon at Frazier Field. Saturday's game concluded the 'Canes 2012 regular season.


Game One
Louisburg 4   Rappahannock 0

In the first game, Louisburg's Tim Brechbuehler (11-0) earned the win after striking out five while giving up no runs on four hits in 6.0 innings pitched.  Daniel Hyatt worked 2.0 innings giving up two hits with three strike outs. 

Louisburg took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on a solo homerun by Tyler Long.

The 'Canes stretched the margin to 4-0 in the fifth as TJ Ehrsam and Zach Houchins knocked RBI singles scoring Tucker Coward and Jake WatsonChris Robinson's RBI groundout plated Ehrsam for the final run of the inning.   

Rappahannock connected for only three additional hits in the next three innings, unable to produce any runs.

Ehrsam batted 2-for-2 with one RBI.  Houchins went 2-for-4 with one RBI and Long went 1-for-3 with a homerun. 

 

Game Two
Louisburg 3   Rappahannock 1

In the second game, Zach Houchins blasted a two-run homer to deep left to give the Hurricanes a 3-1 claim in extra innings. 

Josh Roeder (6-2) picked up the win with four strikeouts in 2.0 innings of work.  Starter Cody Cox gave up one run on two hits with seven strikeouts before being relieved in the sixth inning. 

Louisburg opened up a 1-0 lead in the first on a RBI double by Brandon Rawe that plated Marcus Wojtkowicz.

Rappahannock would answer in the third tying the score 1-1 on a RBI single.

In a pitcher's duel, both teams would combine for only five hits in the next four innings before Houchin's homerun ended the drought.

Brandon Rawe went 3-for-3 with one RBI, and three doubles.  Houchins batted 1-for-4 with two RBI and a homerun. 

he Hurricanes finished the regular season with an outstanding record of 49-7 overall and 21-7 in Region X. The 'Canes are just two wins shy of tying the school record for wins!  The record currently stands at 51 with the 2002 team.  

Louisburg will start Region X Tournament action in Burlington, NC this Saturday, competing against Pitt Community College at 1:00 p.m.  Earlier in the season, the Hurricanes defeated Pitt 4-0 on the road.
