BURLINGTON, NC — The Louisburg College baseball team had to come from behind in their Region X Tournament opening game as they defeated Pitt CC, 10-7, Saturday afternoon. The Hurricanes were down 6-0 after three innings of play but solid bullpen work and some clutch hits allowed the second seeded 'Canes to get past the seventh seeded Bulldogs.
John Allen (Creedmoor, NC/East Carolina University) got the start where he allowed six runs, three earned, on four hits through three innings but he didn't figure in the decision as Zach McCormack (Marietta, GA/Sprayberry HS) got the win out of the pen where he only allowed one unearned run through 3.2 innings of relief. Daniel Batts (Knighdale, NC/Knightdale HS) also worked out of the pen as he set things up for Alex Ledford (Asheville, NC/Chattanooga State CC) who threw the final inning, earning the save.
Infielder, Jeffrey Sneed (Atlanta, GA/Kings Ridge HS) led the way at the plate for LC as he went 3-4 and drove in one RBI. Bradley Morton (Winston Salem, NC/Mt. Tabor HS) and Pete Guy (Thomasville, NC/Ledford HS) each had a pair of hits in the playoff win with Morton driving in one RBI, while Guy plated two Louisburg runs.
The Hurricanes will return to the field in Burlington tomorrow afternoon when they take on Florence Darlington Technical College in a second round game. First pitch at Fairchild Park is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
