ALBANY, GA –The Louisburg College men's soccer team's season came to an end, Saturday afternoon, with a 1-0 overtime loss to Tyler Junior College (Tyler, Texas) in the NJCAA Championship's final game.
Neither team scored through regulation play, which lead to an overtime period with a golden goal scenario; first team to score wins a national championship. Both teams had chances to end it in the extra period but the Apaches came up the victor as LC goalie, Brian Howard (Roanoke Rapids, NC/Roanoke Rapids HS) was scored upon for only the second time of the tournament. The freshman keeper was nearly perfect in the final where the Hurricanes were outshot 19-10.
Three Hurricanes earned All-Tournament honors as Jacques Francois (Fort Myers, FL/Fort Myers HS), Adrian Gonzales (Fuquay-Varina, NC/Fuquay-Varina HS) and Brad Vorv (Chevy Chase, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase HS) were recognized for their play in the national championship's week long tournament.
Louisburg finishes 2012 with a record of 21-1 under first year head coach Cristian Neagu. "It's not a good feeling losing a national championship in overtime," said Neagu. "All we can do is take this feeling and use it as motivation for next year. I'm very proud of these guys and they have nothing to be ashamed of."
