Bio
Ted Awana has completed his fourth season as Head Coach of the Men’s soccer team. In 2021, the Hurricanes were crowned Region 10 tournament champions for the fourth consecutive year in a row. A two time District Coach of the Year, Awana has led the Hurricanes to back to back District Championships and NJCAA National Tournament appearances in 2019 and 2020. Under his guidance Louisburg has been ranked as high as #2 nationally in the NJCAA men’s soccer pole.
Awana began his collegiate coaching career at Louisburg in 2011, where he served as the program’s recruiting coordinator/assistant coach. During this time, the program went 106-16-3 and won the 2015 NJCAA National Championship with a record of 24-1. In 2012, the Hurricanes finished with a record of 21-1 and were National Championship Finalist.
Awana returned to Louisburg in January of 2018, after serving as the Head Coach of Wake Tech Community College in 2017. The Eagles doubled their wins in 2017 and qualified for the Region Tournament. During that time Awana also served as the Older Boy’s Director of Coaching for Neuse River Futbol Alliance. He was instrumental in helping develop the newly formed competitive youth soccer club.
As a fifth year Head Coach, Awana holds an overall record of 55-19-8. During his ten year tenure with the soccer program, Louisburg has produced over 20 All-Americans who have continued their education and playing careers at multiple NCAA DI programs throughout the country. A 2015 Louisburg College Alumni, Juan Pablo Saavedra was the first ever Louisburg player to be selected in the MLS Super Draft by Toronto FC in January of 2017. In addition, 2016 Alumni Max Blackmore was named the NJCAA National player of the year. His efforts helped the Hurricanes beat Tyler Junior College 1-0 in double overtime and claim Louisburg’s first National Title.
A Louisburg College Alum, Coach Awana had two successful seasons playing for the Hurricanes. He graduated in 2008 with an Associates in Arts before transferring to play for Campbell University. Coach Awana graduated from Campbell in 2010 with a B.S. in Exercise Sport Science.
Coach Awana is on staff with North Carolina Youth FC working with their classic teams in the U13-U18 age groups. Aside from soccer, he enjoys training for his next ½ marathon race along with playing golf. He resides in Raleigh, NC.
