LC Softball Defeats College of Albemarle

 

 

The Hurricanes softball team played their first home date of the 2012 season, Thursday night, and they took advantage of their home turf as the Lady 'Canes defeated the College of The Albemarle 7-1 and 2-0.

Jamie Hockaday (Butner, NC) improved to 4-2 with the complete game effort in the opener. The sophomore pitcher went seven innings strong where she allowed one run, on four hits, all while striking out four Dolphin hitters. Hockaday also led the Lady Hurricanes at the plate as she went 3-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI. Katrina Bartlett (Greensboro, NC) also contributed at the plate as she went 2-3 with a double and three RBI which came on a bases clearing double to get the 'Canes on the board.

Traci Bridgers (Goldsboro, NC) got the start, and win, in game two as she went the distance in the nonconference win. The frosh hurler went seven innings deep where she shutout COA only allowing five hits. Bridgers also fanned a season high eight batters.

Second baseman, Emily Mercer (Raleigh, NC) provided all of the offense for LC in game two as she went 3-3 and drove in both runs. The second run came on a shot over the fence, and batting cage, after a 40 minute rain delay.

The 9-3 Hurricanes will return to action this weekend as they resume conference play at USC-Sumter. The two teams will play doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.
