Lady Hurricanes Sweep Surry CC

 

The Lady Hurricanes hit the road for a Spring Break double header at Surry CC on Wednesday where the 'Canes took both sides of the double-dip winning game one 5-3 and completing the sweep with a 12-4 win in the nightcap. With the pair of nonconference wins the Hurricanes improve to 5-1 on the season.

Jamie Hockaday (Butner, NC) got the start in game one where she went seven innings strong allowing three unearned runs on six hits. The lefty also fanned nine Lady Knights batters. The hurler even helped herself out at the plate as she went 2-3 with a double, a pair of RBI and a stolen base.

Katrina Bartlett (Greensboro, NC) also had a pair of hits in game one as she went 2-4, with a triple and an RBI.

The Lady 'Canes pounded out 13 hits in game two as they backed Traci Bridgers (Goldsboro, NC) to her second win of the season. Bridgers threw five innings where she gave up four runs, three earned, on five hits. Megan Thompson (Newport News, VA) closed things out as she threw a flawless sixth.

Bartlett and Morgan Tharrington (Youngsville, NC) led the Hurricane offense in game two as they each had three hits in the ballgame. Bartlett went 3-4 with three doubles while Tharrington went 3-4 with a three-run homerun. Center fielder Lauren Saller (Mechanicsville, VA) and third baseman Sommer Di Fulgo (Virginia Beach, VA) also had multi-hit efforts as Saller went 2-4 and Di Fulgo, 2-3.

The Lady Hurricanes will return to action this weekend as they open up conference play at USC Lancaster. The two teams will play a four game series with a pair of games on Saturday and another twin bill on Sunday.
