Lady Hurricanes Sweep Florence-Darlington Tech
The Lady Hurricane softball team earned a four-game sweep over Florence-Darlington Technical College this weekend. With the four conference wins, the Canes improve to 23-12 overall, 13-11 in Region X play.
Game 1
LC 6 FDT 4
Sophomore pitcher, Jamie Hockaday (Butner, NC) was the star of the series opener as she went the distance in the circle where she gave up four runs, three earned, on nine hits. Hockaday also got it done at the plate as she went 2-3 with a pair of homeruns in the 6-4 win. Second Baseman, Emily Mercer (Raleigh, NC) also went yard as she went 1-3 and drove in a pair of RBI.
Game 2

Traci Bridgers (Goldsboro, NC) and Megan Thompson (Newport News, VA) combined to throw a one-hit shutout in Friday's game two where the Canes beat the Stingers, 7-0. Bridgers got the start where she only gave up one hit and she fanned five FDTC batters. Thompson threw the seventh where she fanned two more Stingers batters.
The Hurricanes continued to show some pop at the plate as they hit three more homeruns in the nightcap. Katrina Bartlett (Greensboro, NC), Angelica Fontana (Manalapan, NJ) and Morgan Tharrington (Youngsville, NC) went a combined 4-7, drove in six RBI and each hit a bomb.
Game 3

Jamie Hockaday improved her record to 12-6 with another complete game win on Saturday. In the 3-2 conference win, the lefty gave up two runs, on three hits and she struck out five Stingers.
Sommer Di Fulgo (Virginia Beach, VA) hit the first homerun of her college career as she went yard for the Lady Canes. The catcher finished the game at 2-3, with two runs scored and one RBI. Hockaday also helped herself out as she went 1-2, with a pair of walks and an RBI.
Game 4

The Canes earned the sweep as they defeated the Stingers 5-1 in the series finale. Traci Bridgers (8-5) earned the win in the circle as she gave up one run, on four hits through six innings of work. The frosh hurler also fanned five Florence-Darlington batters. Megan Thompson closed things out where she gave up four hits but didn't allow and runs in relief.
The Hurricanes will play their final home games of the 2012 season, on Tuesday, when they host Patrick Henry CC at Cotton Field. The nonconference doubleheader is scheduled to start at 5:00p.m.
