Lady 'Canes End Regular Season With Two Wins
The Hurricanes softball team wrapped up the 2012 regular season with a pair of wins over USC Salkehatchie, Saturday afternoon. With the 9-1 and 9-0 victories, the Canes finish with an overall record of 26-13, 15-11 in Region X.
Jamie Hockaday (Butner, NC) got the start in the circle, but she didn't figure in the decision as Megan Thompson (Newport News, VA) earned the win out of the pen. Hockaday threw 3.2 innings where she only gave up one run, on two hits before giving way to Thompson who threw 2.1 innings of no-hit, no-run relief.
Hockaday also did some damage at the plate as she went 3-3, with a double, a run and two RBI, while Sommer Di Fulgo (Virginia Beach, VA) and Morgan Tharrington (Youngsville, NC) each went 2-4 and drove in a pair of RBI. Ashley Williams (Locust Hill, VA) was the final Cane to put in a multi-hit effort as she went 2-3, hit a double and scored a pair of runs.
Traci Bridgers (Goldsboro, NC) earned her fourth straight win as she went the distance, in the run-rule game-two, throwing five innings of one hit ball. The frosh also fanned nine Indians' hitters.
Maci Burns (Hebron, MD) led the way at the dish in game two as she went 3-4, with a double, a triple, two runs and two RBI. Tharrington also went 3-4, scored a run and drove in one RBI. Designated player, Tyler Weil (Lagrangeville, NY) chipped in with a 2-4 effort, where she hit a double and plated three Hurricane runs.
The Lady Hurricanes earned the #3 seed for the 2012 Region X Tournament that will take place next weekend in Sumter, SC. LC will play their opening round game at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, where they will take on the #6 seeded Fire Ants of USC Sumter.
