Lady Hurricanes End Season At Region X Tournament
The Lady Hurricanes softball team wrapped up their 2012 campaign with an appearance at the Region X Tournament, April 27-29. As the # 3 seed, the team got off to a slow start when they were defeated 3-0 by # 6 seeded USC-Sumter. The Hurricanes bounced back with a 7-1 win over USC-Lancaster but the LC season was ended in the third round as they were knocked off 4-1 by Pitt CC.
The 'Canes finished the 2012 season with an overall record of 27-15 and they were led by six players who were awarded All-Region X honors. Jamie Hockaday and Morgan Tharrington both received 1st Team awards as infielders. Hockaday also picked up a 2ndTeam award as a pitcher and she was joined by Katrina Bartlett (outfield) and Tyler Weil (utility). Traci Bridgers was the final Lady Cane to be honored as she was awarded an Honorable Mention nod as a pitcher.
Bridgers and outfielder Maci Burns picked up All-Tournament Team awards for their efforts at the season ending tournament that was won by Aiken Tech College.
"I am very happy with how the season went," said Head Coach Don Stopa. "The team played well all spring, and we had a chance at the Region Tournament."
