Lady 'Canes Close Regular Season With Two Wins

LOUISBURG, NC — The Louisburg College softball team closed out their 2013 regular season with a pair of win over USC Salkehatchie, Saturday afternoon.

 

The Lady 'Canes took game one 8-0 behind a Rebecca Norwood (Norlina, NC/Southern Vance HS) shutout performance. The frosh pitcher threw five innings where she only allowed three hits and she fanned three Indian hitters.

 

Morgan Tharrington (Youngsville, NC/Franklinton HS) led the way at the plate in the game one win as she went 3-4 and knocked in a pair of RBI. Jessica Langley (Kenly, NC/North Johnston HS) also got it done at the plate where she went 2-3, scored two runs and hit a pair of doubles.

 

Holly Gravitte (Hillsborough, NC/Cedar Ridge HS) went the distance in game two as she pitched the 'Canes to a 6-3 win. Through seven innings, Gravitte gave up three runs, two earned, on 11 hits all while striking out five USCS hitters.

 

Trina Bartlett (Greensboro, NC/Dudley HS) got it done out of the leadoff spot in game two where she went 3-4, scored a run and hit a pair of doubles. The sophomore finishes the regular season with a batting average of .440.

 

Maci Burns (Hebron, MD/Mardela HS) and Morgan Tharrington also hit the ball well in game two as Burns went 2-4, scored two runs, hit a double and a triple, while Tharrington went 2-4, knocked her 17th homerun of the season and drove in three RBI.

 

The Hurricanes wrap up the regular season with an overall record of 23-18, 9-12 in Region X and they take a nine-game win streak into next week's Region X Tournament.
