AIKEN, SC — The Lady 'Canes softball team opened up play at the 2013 Region X Tournament with a 2-0 loss at the hands of USC Sumter, Friday afternoon.

Frosh pitcher, Rebecca Norwood (Norlina, NC/Southern Vance HS) took to the circle where she went the distance in the tournament loss. Norwood gave up two runs, one earned, on five hits, all while fanning four Fire Ant hitters.

Center fielder, Jessica Langley (Kenly, NC/North Johnston HS) led the way at the plate where she went 2-3, with a pair of singles. Shortstop, Morgan Tharrington (Youngsville, NC/Franklinton HS) reached base in all three plate appearances as she went 1-1, was hit by a pitch and reached on a walk.

The Hurricanes will return to Citizen's Park tomorrow at 12:30 pm, in a loser-out game, as they play the loser of Aiken Tech College and Pitt CC who play at 10:00 am.
