The Louisburg College Softball team opened up 2018 with a bang by sweeping a double header from Patrick Henry Community College by final scores of 19-11 and 10-0. The Canes sit at 2-0 following the wins on Friday night.
Freshman Summer Phillips started her collegiate career in story book fashion with a pair of home runs on the night. As a team, the Hurricanes totaled 35 hits on the evening including 9 doubles, 2 triples and the pair of home runs from Phillips. Every player who recorded an at bat on the evening also registered at least one hit.
Savannah Jackson, a sophomore from Chesapeake, VA, was the star in the circle for Louisburg throwing a two hit shutout in game two. Jackson also went 4-5 at the plate including a pair of doubles.
"I can't say enough about this team and the progress that they continue to make on a daily basis," said first year Head Coach Eric Lee. "It has been fun to watch this group evolve. We have a long way to go - the collegiate softball season is a marathon not a sprint - but this was a really fun and exciting way to start things out."
Up next for the Canes is another home date, February 17th, when Southeastern Community College comes to town for a twin bill.
