SPARTANBURG, SC – The Louisburg College women's soccer team earned a Region 10 Tournament Championship with a thrilling, sudden death overtime, 1-0 win over #16 Cape Fear CC, Sunday afternoon.
The sixth seeded Hurricanes were outshot 16-4 by the tournament's top seed but that was what Head Coach Andy Stokes was looking for. "We wanted to sit back and play a strong defensive game," said Stokes. "The plan was to play smart and use a good counter attack."
The plan worked as Region 10 Most Valuable Player, Jessica Scales (Roanoke Rapids, NC) scored the game's only goal, in the third minute of the second overtime, while Lady 'Canes goalie, Allison Bell (Creedmoor, NC) got the job done in net where she made four saves on the day.
The Hurricanes will host the District L Championship next Saturday where they will host Region 20 Champions, Community College of Baltimore County – Essex. The winner of next Saturday's game will advance to the 2012 NJCAA Women's Soccer National Championship in Melbourne, Florida, Nov. 12-17.
