2012 Season Review
Coming off of the back of a very successful 2011 season which saw the Lady Hurricanes finish with a 12-5-1 record, a trip to the semi-final of the Region X tournament, the team's first NJCAA Top 20 ranking in nine years, and forward Larie Bailey's performance that ranked nationally for goals scored; Head Coach Andy Stokes added a strong 2012 recruiting class to replace the departing sophomores with the aim of bettering the past season's feats.
Under the Leadership of Stokes the 2012 Louisburg College women's soccer team made history!
With a tough 2012 schedule, 11 freshman and six sophomores, the 'Canes set out on what can only be described as an amazing journey. A journey that Stokes always believed possible gauging the strength of the 2012 squad.
The 2012 Lady Hurricanes picked up momentum as their season progressed with the sight set on a strong conference finish and a goal of winning the Region X Tournament.
The team ended the 2012 season with their first Region X Tournament Championship in eight years and a host of individual awards including the Region X Player of the Year, three 1st Team All-Region players, two 2nd Team All-Region players and one All-Region Honorable Mention. Forward, Jessica Scales was the Leading goal scorer in the nation with 39 goals earning an NJCAA All-American award. Goal keeper Allison Bell was ranked 8th in the nation and the Louisburg College Women's soccer team received a Top 20 ranking for the second straight year under Stokes.
The Lady Hurricanes soccer team went on to make history by being the First Region X team to beat a Region XX opponent in the District L Championship game, earning the ultimate prize, a trip to the NJCAA National Championship Tournament.
For the first time in Louisburg College Women's soccer history and Region X history LC headed to Melbourne, Florida for the championship tournament. As the 11th seed with a 13-6 overall record, the Lady 'Canes went on to set some 2012 National Tournament firsts as they were the only lower seed team to take a lead against a higher seeded team in the tournament and they were also the only lower seeded team to score more than one goal in a single game against a higher seed.
The 2012 Lady Hurricanes Soccer team will go down in history for what they achieved this past season! Now going into 2013 they prepare to make history again.
