Baseball Splits the Day But Takes the Series With Sumter
LOUISBURG, NC — The Louisburg College baseball team split day two's conference doubleheader with USC Sumter as the Fire Ants won game one 6-1 and the Hurricanes answered with a 3-1 win in the nightcap. LC takes the weekend series 3-1 and improves to 11-3 overall.
Right handed pitcher, Jeremy Coburn (Louisburg, NC/Louisburg HS) took the loss in game one where he gave up five runs on nine hits. LC only had three hits in the loss where Chris Williams (Fuquay Varina, NC/Fuquay Varina HS) went 1-2 and drove in the only Hurricane run.
John McGillicuddy (Fairfax, VA/Marshall University) got the start, and win, in game two where he went 6.1 innings deep giving up one run on five hits. Shane Simpkins (Northampton, PA/Notre Dame Green HS) got the last two outs, earning the save.
Bradley Morton (Winston Salem, NC/Mt. Tabor HS) had a pair of hits in the game two win as he went 2-3 and scored a pair of runs. Tucker Coward (Ramseur, NC/Eastern Randolph HS) and Jeffrey Sneed (Atlanta, GA/Kings Ridge HS) each knocked in an RBI as Coward went 1-3 and Sneed 1-2.
The Hurricanes will hit the road for their next game when they travel to Kinston, NC to take on Lenoir CC. First pitch in the nonconference game is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
