Hurricanes Split a Pair at Guilford
GREENSBORO, NC — The Louisburg College baseball team hit the road Friday afternoon for a conference doubleheader at Guilford Tech CC where the home side took game one, 5-4, but the 'Canes answered back taking game two, 7-6.
Joe McGillicuddy (Fairfax, VA/Marshall University) got the start in game one where he threw 2.2 innings giving up three runs on three hits but he didn't figure in the decision as Alex Ledford (Asheville, NC/Chattanooga State CC) took the loss out of the pen.
Tim Mansfield (Charlotte, NC/Providence Day HS) led the way at the plate as he went 3-4 in game one. Cedric Mullins (Snellville, GA/Brookwood HS) and Pete Guy (Thomasville, NC/Ledford HS) also chipped in at the plate where they each went 2-4.
John Allen (Creedmoor, NC/East Carolina University) got the start in game two where he earned the win. The lefty threw five innings where he gave up four runs on six hits before giving way to Shane Simpkins (Northampton, PA/Notre Dame Green HS) and Alex Ledford who each threw an inning of relief, with Ledford earning the save.
Mullins again went 2-4 out of the leadoff spot, while Bradley Morton (Winston Salem NC/Mt. Tabor HS) went 1-4 with a homerun and a pair of RBI.
The two teams will hook up again tomorrow as they play another Region X doubleheader that is scheduled to start at 1:00 pm in Greensboro.
