Baseball Takes a Weekend Series Over the Lancers
LOUISBURG, NC — The Louisburg College baseball team took a weekend series over USC Lancaster as the 'Canes won both ends of a conference doubleheader, Sunday afternoon.
Jeremy Coburn (Louisburg, NC/Louisburg HS) went the distance in game one's, 3-2, win. The sophomore starter gave up two runs, on two hits in the Sunday start. John McGillicuddy (Fairfax, VA/Marshall University) got the win on the hill in game two where he allowed four runs, two earned, on four hits. The righty also fanned nine Lancers in the series clinching 10-4 win.
Pete Guy (Thomasville, NC/Ledford HS) led the way at the plate in game two as he went 2-4, while Marcus Wojtkowicz (Owosso, MI/Owosso HS) played hero in game one when he hit a walk off single in in the bottom of the seventh. The catcher continued with his hot bat in the second game where he went 2-3 and drove in three more RBI. Three other Hurricanes had multi-hit games and each drove in a pair of RBI.
The 22-9, 12-6 in Region X, Hurricanes will travel to Rappahannock CC on Wednesday for a single nonconference game, then return to conference play next weekend when they play at Spartanburg Methodist College.
