Baseball Takes Series Over the Indians

ALLENDALE, SC — The Louisburg College baseball team lost their  weekend series opener at USC Saklehatchie but the Hurricanes responded by taking the final three game of the four-game set. LC swept Sunday's action with a 7-0 shutout and an 8-4 win in the series finale.

John McGillicuddy (Fairfax, VA/Marshall University) went the distance in game one where he only gave up three hits in the shutout. The sophomore pitcher also struck out five USCS batters in the conference win. Alex Ledford (Asheville, NC/Chattanooga State CC), Tyler Long (Alton, VA/Halifax County HS)  and Bradley Morton (Winston Salem, NC/Mt. Tabor HS) each had a pair of base knocks in game one, with Morton and Long each knocking in an RBI, while Ledford chipped in with a pair of RBI.

Daniel Batts (Knightdale, NC/Knightdale HS) took the bump in game two where he earned the win. The freshman lefty only allowed four hits and surrendered four runs, one earned, all while fanning six USCS hitters. Tucker Coward (Ramseur, NC/Eastern Randolph HS) was perfect at the plate in game two as he went 4-4 and drove in one LC run. Augie Ayers (Chesterfield, VA/Manchester HS) and Tim Mansfield (Charlotte, NC/Providence Day HS) also hit the ball well in the series' final game as they each went 2-3.

The 29-12 overall Hurricanes wrap up conference play with a Region X record of 17-9. The team will play four more nonconference games as tune-ups before they take part in the 2013 Region X Tournament in a couple of weeks.
