#8 Football Picks Up First Loss

LOUISBURG, NC – The #8 Louisburg College football team suffered their first loss of the 2012 season as they were defeated, 36-22, by Dean College, Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Canes record stands at 4-1 overall, 2-1 in the Northeast Football Conference.

The Bulldogs outscored the Hurricanes 29-7 through three quarters of play, but Louisburg made some big plays to get within seven points midway through the fourth. A blocked field goal attempt and a recovered onside kick were the high lights for the Hurricanes but they couldn't find the end zone on their final drive.

LC quarterback, Madison Mills (Winston Salem, NC) put up some good yardage through the air as he went 16-31 with a pair of touchdown passes and 309 yards. Mills also threw three picks in the conference loss. Demarques Martin (Belhaven, NC) was Mills' favorite target as he made nine catches for a total of 182 yards receiving.

Linebacker, Stephen Williams (Reidsville, NC) led the defensive group as he had three solo tackles and six assists. The freshman also had one tackle for loss. Frosh defensive end, Calvin Pate (New Bern, NC) came up big as he had three solos and one assist, including a sack for 12 yards and 1.5 tackles for six more yards of loss.

The #8 Hurricanes will play another home game next weekend when they host Monroe College (Bronx, NY) on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for noon, on the campus of Louisburg High School.
