Defense Leads #15 Football

LOUISBURG, NC – The #15 Louisburg College football improved to 5-1 with a 27-3 nonconference win over Monroe College (Bronx, NY), Saturday afternoon.

The Mustangs got the first score of the game as they hit a 26 yard field goal late in the first quarter but it was all Hurricanes after that as the LC defense came up big, drive after drive. In total, LC limited the Mustangs to 126 total yards of offense (29 on the ground, 97 through the air).

Linebacker, Stephen Williams (Reidsville, NC) led the team in tackles as he had two solos tackles to go along with nine assists. Williams also got in on one of the Canes six sacks. Zebulon Perkins (Jacksonville, FL) also got some hits on the MC quarterback as he had a pair of sacks, totaling 21 yards of loss. Keaston Jones (Augusta, GA) and Brandon McGee (Milton, NC) also made a number of big stops including a sack each. Jones had one pass break up while McGee forced a fumble.

The Hurricanes picked up 278 yards of their own offense which led to 27 total points. Devante Watkins (Raleigh, NC) led the point scorers as he had a pair of catches, both for scores. Chris Taylor (Wilson, NC) only had one catch in the game but he made the best of it as it was a 30 yard catch and run to the end zone. Freshman kicker Ryan Samuels (Fredricksburg, VA) put some points on the board as he booted a pair of field goals, the first at 23 yards, the second at 42. Samuels also hit all three extra points.

The #15 Hurricanes have a bye next week and will return to Northeast Football Conference action on October 20th when they host Hudson Valley CC. Kickoff is scheduled for noon, on the campus of Bunn High School.
