#1 Hurricanes Fall to #17 Wake Tech
LOUISBURG, NC – In a game that took two days to complete, the #1 Louisburg College men's basketball team suffered their first loss of the season as cross-town rival Wake Tech CC bested the Hurricanes, 75-73 in the Taylor Center.
The Region X game started Wednesday night but four minutes into the second period the lights went out in the Taylor Center, halting the game. The two teams returned to the court Thursday night with just over 16 minutes remaining and LC up 42-36.
The Hurricanes' lead was short lived as the Eagles outscored the 'Canes 39-31 in the bonus day's play. Louisburg almost pulled the unthinkable comeback in the final seconds as Antonio Robinson (Winston Salem, NC/Parkland HS) had three free throws with LC down by four points. The sophomore guard hit the first two, purposely missed the third which he got the rebound off the scramble and was fouled again while attempting to hit the game winner. Robinson missed the first of two and again purposely missed the second free throw that didn't get the rim. On the ensuing inbound, Louisburg got the steal at half court but the prayer from just inside center only got rim, giving WTCC the upset win.
Kevin Williams (Franklinton, NC/Franklinton HS) led the 'Canes in scoring as he dropped 22 in the loss. Robinson finished just behind Williams as he chipped in with 18.
The 20-1, 8-1 in Region X, Hurricanes will look to bounce back on Saturday when they host Sandhills CC for a nonconference game. Opening tip in the Taylor Center is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
The team is looking to paint the gym red on Saturday as they plan to Let the Red Out. All fans are urged to wear red in the Saturday afternoon game.
