Hurricanes sophomore golfer, Juan Fernandez (Panama City, Panama) placed first  in the Louisburg Confab Golf Tournament on Friday, September 7, where he shot an even par 72.  Host, Louisburg College scored 307 as a team losing to North Carolina Wesleyan College by only 3 strokes.  However, the Canes won over Surry Community College by 16 strokes.  Sophomore golfer Ty Niday (Lexington, NC) scored a 75, freshman Zach Robins (Southern Shores, NC) scored a 79, freshmen Cal Addy (Newfield, NY) and Clay Boerner (Statesboro, GA) scored 81, and freshman Devin Herring (Castilla, NC) scored an 87.

"The team chemistry is showing consistent improvement from week to week," Sloan said. "The freshmen golfers are beginning to grasp the importance of working together in team competition.  The 300 team goal becomes reachable as the players concentrate on their swing rhythm and placing the ball in the fairway from the tee box."

The Hurricanes play next on Monday, September 17, at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Raleigh, NC against several NJCAA teams.
