Lady Canes Fall Twice to Surry
DOBSON, NC — The Lady Canes softball team struggled through a pair of nonconference losses, Tuesday afternoon, as Surry CC knocked off LC, 6-5 and 12-3.
Megon Smith (Garland, NC/Union HS) took the loss in game one as she went the distance giving up six runs, four earned, on 11 hits. Louisburg outhit the Lady Knights 14-11 and five players registered multi-hit games. Sierra McLaren (Guelph, Ontario/Guelph Collegiate Secondary) led the way with a 3-4 effort and the catcher also drove in one RBI. Smith tried to help her own cause as she went 2-4 with one RBI, while Erika Hardy (Hampton, VA/Bethel HS) also did some damage at the plate as she went 2-3, scored a run and drove in two.
Jennifer Allison (Denver, NC/East Lincoln HS) took the loss in game two where she threw three innings of work. Rebecca Norwood (Norlina, NC/Southern Vance HS) and Alexis Weisgarber (Massillon, OH/Massillon HS) both made appearances out of the pen, but as a staff the trio gave up 12 runs on 17 hits.
McLaren and Heather Howard (Angier, NC/West Johnston HS) were the offensive leaders in game two as they each went 2-3 at the plate. McLaren scored one run and hit a double, while Howard drove in three runs and hit a double.
The Canes will have a day off tomorrow then travel Southeastern CC on Thursday for another nonconference twin bill.
