Softball Splits Behind Allison No Hitter
LOUISBURG, NC — The Lady Canes softball team picked up conference split, Saturday afternoon, as they were downed 2-0 in game one of their doubleheader with USC Sumter, but the bats came alive in game two as LC knocked off the Fire Ants, 8-0.
Megon Smith (Garland, NC/Union HS) got the start in game one where she took the loss. The only runs of the ball game came in the first inning as USCS's Danielle Reeves hit a two run homer. Smith only allowed the two runs on six total hits and she fanned six Ants hitters. First baseman Jennifer Allison (Denver, NC/East Lincoln HS) was the top hitter in the game for the Lady Canes as she went 2-3, while shortstop Kim Mobley (Williamston, NC/South Creek HS) went 1-2 with a double.
Allison was the player of the game in game two's win as she threw a no hitter from the circle and went 2-3 at the plate. The frosh also scored a pair of runs and hit a two run bomb in the fourth inning. Smith also hit a two run bomb in game two where she finished at 2-3, drove in three RBI and also smacked a double. Sierra McLaren (Guelph, Ontario/Guelph Collegiate Secondary) and Mobley were perfect at the plate in game two as McLaren went 3-3, while Mobley was 2-2, with a walk.
The two teams will return to Cotten Field tomorrow for another conference doubleheader starting at noon.
