Lady Canes Go 2-2 in Weekend Series

LOUISBURG, NC — The Louisburg College softball team split a weekend series with USC Sumter as the Canes took game one on Sunday, 2-0, but fell, 2-1, in the series finale.  

 

Megon Smith (Garland, NC/Union HS) earned the win in game one, improving her season record to 8-6. The freshman threw all seven innings where she spread out four Fire Ant hits, all while striking out five Sumter hitters. Jennifer Allison (Denver, NC/East Lincoln HS) took the loss in game two where the Lady Canes out hit the Ants 7-5. Allison (6-4) only surrendered five hits and both runs were unearned.

 

Allison swung the bat well in game one as she went 2-3 and scored one run. Rebecca Norwood (Norlina, NC/Southern Vance HS) got the big hit in the conference win as she hit a two run double in the sixth.

 

Smith and third baseman Megan Johnson (Roanoke Rapids, NC/Roanioke Rapids HS) provided most of the LC offense in game two as Smith went 2-4 with an RBI, while Johnson went 2-3.

 
 

The 17-11 Lady Canes will look to improve on their 2-4 Region X record on Wednesday when they host Pitt CC at Cotten Field. First pitch in the conference twin bill is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
