Lady Canes Close Out Regular Season

MARTINSVILLE, VA — The Lady Canes softball team closed out their 2014 regular season with a pair of nonconference losses to Patrick Henry CC, Monday afternoon.

 

Megon Smith (Garland, NC/Union HS) had a solid effort in the circle in game one as she went 6.2 innings where she allowed four runs, one earned, on six hits in the 4-3 loss. The frosh hurler ends he first college season with a record of 9-10 and a 2.99 ERA as PHCC got the win on a two-out seventh inning Texas leaguer to center. Smith tried to help herself out at the plate where she went 1-3 with a two-run bomb to straight away center. Catcher, Kim Mobley (Williamston, NC/South Creek HS) also went 1-3, and she too hit a homerun to center that tied things up in the sixth.

 

Jennifer Allison (Denver, NC/East Lincoln HS) got the start in game two's 10-7 loss, where she started off strong but the defense let her down in the fourth where she gave up eight runs, one of which was earned. Rebecca Norwood (Norlina, NC/Southern Vance HS) threw the final 2.1 innings where she gave up two runs on three hits.

 

Smith had another good game at the plate where she hit another homerun to center, finishing off the game at 2-4. Sierra McLaren (Guelph, Ontario/Guelph Collegiate Secondary) and Kim Mobley also went 2-4 in the nightcap, and they both hit a double.

 

The Canes (18-19) will host the Region X Tournament this weekend at Cotten Field. As the four seed, LC will play #5 USC Salkehatchie (2-27) in the tournament opener at 10:30 am on Friday.
