Softball Post Season Awards
LOUISBURG, NC — The Louisburg College softball team wrapped up their 2014 season with an overall record of 20-21 and a third place finish at the 2014 Region X Championship. For their efforts on the field through the regular season, five Lady Canes earned 2014 All-Region nods.
Jennifer Allison (Denver, NC/East Lincoln HS) picked up the Canes' only 1st Team award, as a utility player who played first base, second base, shortstop, right field and pitcher. Tori Geissinger (Chesapeake, VA/Hickory HS), Sierra McLaren (Guelph, Ontario/Guelph Collegiate HS) and Megon Smith (Garland, NC/Union HS) each earned 2nd Team honors as Geissinger was recognized as an infielder, while McLaren got the nod as a catcher and Smith for her work in the pitcher's circle. Kim Mobley (Williamston, NC/South Creek HS) was the final Lady Cane to receive an award as she got an Honorable Mention nod as a catcher.
Four additional awards were handed out at the conclusion of the Region X tournament as Allison, Geissinger, Heather Howard (Angier, NC/West Johnston) and Smith played exceptionally well on championship weekend.
Allison pitched the Canes to a pair of wins in the circle, while Howard led the team with a .600 batting average through the four games played. The outfielder also hit a pair of doubles and a homerun. After a three-week absence due to a hand injury, Geissinger returned to play in the tournament where she hit .462 out of the leadoff spot, to go along with stellar play at shortstop. Smith finished the tournament with a batting average .571 and she opened up the weekend with a bang as she pounded a pair of monster homeruns in the win over USC Salkehatchie, to go along with four doubles and eight RBI through the final three games.
