Louisburg College's Softball Program kicked off their 2019 campaign over the weekend with four wins over NCAA opponents. The Hurricanes outscored Belmont Abbey and Methodist by a combined 32-5.
Leading the way for Louisburg in the four games over the weekend was sophomore Mary Anna Clement who went 11 innings in the circle while surrendering only two hits. Clement also struck out 13 batters and didn't issue a single base on balls. At the plate, she batted .500 (6-12) with a Home Run and four RBI.
Haleigh Joyner, a freshman from Garner, also had a breakout offensive weekend batting .462 (6-13) with four doubles, a triple, two RBI and four runs scored. Joyner is slugging a staggering .923 for the season. Sarah Hilton, another freshman from Thomasville, went 6-13 with three doubles and four RBI of her own.
"I think that's the danger and beauty of this team," said Eric Lee, second year Head Softball Coach. "Haleigh led off for us all weekend and Sarah batted in the nine hole and both were equally as dangerous. We were an exciting team to watch this weekend and my hope is that will continue throughout the season."
The Hurricanes will take a 10 day break before welcoming Harford to town for a Friday night twinbill on February 15th. First pitch is slated for 4pm.
