Lady Canes Fall at National Tournament
OVERLAND PARK, KS —The Lady Canes quest for back to back national titles came to an end, Wednesday night, as 6th seeded Louisburg was knocked off by 11th seeded Monroe College (New York). LC trailed by a dozen points (42-30) at the break and pushed back a couple of times in the second frame but eventually fell in the 76-73 loss.
Kiara Rawls (Killeen, TX/Shoemaker HS) led all scorers with a 27 point effort. The sophomore guard also had seven boards and made five steals. Frosh forward, Zana Tatum (Mooresville, NC/Mooresville HS) was the only other Hurricane to hit for double digits as she scored 14 points on 7-11 shooting. Tatum also earned a double-double swiping a team high 11 boards.
The Lady Canes will now drop to the consolation bracket where they will battle for a top spot of 7th place in the 16 team tournament. LC will return to the court in Overland Park tomorrow afternoon when they take on #14 North Central Missouri College at 4:00 pm eastern.
