Women's Soccer Season Comes to an End

MELBOURNE, FL – The Louisburg College women's soccer team closed out their 2012 season with a 3-2 loss to Laramie County CC (Cheyenne, Wyoming) in the NJCAA National Tournament, Tuesday afternoon.

Lady 'Canes forward, Jessica Scales (Roanoke Rapids, NC/Roanoke Rapids HS) scored the game's opening goal which was her 39th of the season. The goal puts Scales on top of the nation as the NJCAA's top scorer.

The Golden Eagles answered the Scales goal late in the first half then opened up the second frame with a pair of goals, extending their lead to 3-1. Louisburg forward, Riley O'Connell (High Point, NC/Andrews HS) got the 'Canes within a goal as she scored with just over four minutes remaining in regulation. LC had a pair of chances in the last minute of the game but couldn't find the back of the net, ending their season with a record of 13-8 and putting a close to their first ever trip to the NJCAA tournament.

"I'm very proud of the girls," said head coach Andy Stokes. "What an amazing season. We played two of the best 12 teams in the country and held our own. The results are a little disappointing, but we put Louisburg College women's soccer on the map. These young ladies represented their college tremendously."
