HICKORY, NC — The Lady Canes volleyball team lost a pair of Region X matches, Saturday afternoon, as they were defeated 3-2 by Surry CC and 3-0 by #14 Catawba Valley CC.

Surry took the opening match (25-21, 22-25, 14-25, 25-21, 12-15) in a close five-game match where Jasmine Phillips (Hartsville, SC/Hartsville HS) played well at the net earning 10 kills and four blocks. Setter, Ellen TooToo (Wilson, NC/Wilson Hunt HS) set up the offensive attack as she had 49 total assists, to go along with three aces.

Ashley Johnson (Wilson, NC/Wilson Hunt HS) had 18 digs in the first match and she added six more to her total in the three-game (12-25, 16-26, 14-25) loss to Catawba Valley. TooToo had a solid two-way effort in the second match as she had five kills and made seven digs, while Phillips doubled her block total on the day as she had another four blocks in the nightcap.

The 3-8 Lady Canes will look to bounce back with a win on Thursday when they travel to Sandhills CC for a nonconference match. Opening serve in Pinehurst is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
