Lady Canes Take Sandhills in Four
PINEHURST, NC — The Lady Canes volleyball team took a nonconference match, 3-1, at Sandhills CC, Thursday night.
The two teams split the first two games of the match as they were both closely played with LC taking game one 25-21 and SCC winning game two 25-22. The last two games of the match were all Louisburg as they dominated the Flyers 25-15 and 25-19.
LC outside hitter, Deborrah Bennett (Wilson, NC/Wilson Hunt HS) has been battling an ankle injury all season but it appears she is finally getting her legs back as she led the Canes at the net with 14 kills. The frosh also had 11 digs and four aces in the nonconference win.
The attack was well spread out as Jasmine Phillips (Hartsville, SC/Hartsville HS) hit eight kills while Jennifer Allison (Hartsville, SC/Hartsville HS) chipped in with seven to go along with her three blocks. Ashley Britton (Henrico, NC/ Brunswick Academy) and Kaitlyn Sitterson (Williamston, NC/South Creek HS) also got in on the act as they each had six kills.
Frosh setter Ellen TooToo (Wilson, NC/Wilson Hunt HS) had a great two-way effort as she spread out the offense with 39 assists, to go along with her 12 digs. Ashley Johnson (Wilson, NC/Wilson Hunt HS) led the Canes in digs with 24 total, while Corey Watford (Blounts Creek, NC/Southside HS) also had a double-digit effort with ten digs.
