Volleyball Takes Pitt in Five
WINTERVILLE, NC — The Lady Canes volleyball team won a road Region X match, 3-2, over Pitt CC, Thursday night. PCC opened the best-of-five match with a 25-17 win but LC responded with wins in the next two sets, 25-22 and 25-20. Pitt took the fourth game 25-17 before Louisburg closed the door with a 15-10 win in the final game.
Deborrah Bennett (Mt. Olive, NC/Southern Wayne HS) led the offensive effort a she had 15 total kills which was just ahead of Jasmine Phillips (Hartville, SC/Hartsville HS) who had 13 kills. Ellen TooToo (Wilmington, NC/Hoggard HS) set up the offense as she had 45 assists in the conference win. TooToo also had 11 digs which helped out the defensive unit led by Ashley Johnson (Wilson, NC/Wilson Hunt HS) who had a game high 21 digs.
Rashawnda Pevey (Rocky Mount, NC/Southwest Edgecombe HS) had her best night of the season as she made ten kills, while Kaitlyn Sitterson (Williamston, NC/South Creek HS) and Corey Watford (Blounts Creek, NC/Southside HS) also put in solid defensive efforts as they each had ten digs.
The 6-8, 5-7 in Region X, Lady Canes will play another road Region X match on Saturday when they travel to Cape Fear CC. Opening serve in Wilmington, NC is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
