Volleyball Wins on the Road

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Lady Canes volleyball team earned a midweek road win, Tuesday night, as they defeated Johnson and Wales University 3-2.

The match was closely played with LC dropping game one (20-25) before coming back to take the next two sets (25-22 and 27-25). JWU handled the Canes in the fourth winning 25-17 but in the fifth and deciding game the Canes earned the match win with 16-14 victory.

Ashley Johnson (Wilson, NC/Wilson Hunt HS) was a defensive standout as she had a season high 32 digs. The sophomore libero also had a pair of ace serves in the nonconference win. Brandy Johnson (Goldsboro, NC/Goldsboro HS) also had her best effort of the 2013 season as the right-side player had ten kills, 12 digs and made four blocks.

Outside hitter Kaitlyn Sitterson (Williamston, NC/South Creek HS) stepped up her play as she chipped in with ten kills and 15 digs, while Deborrah Bennett (Mount Olive, NC/Southern Wayne HS) helped out with 11 kills, 14 digs and five aces.

Setter Ellen TooToo (Wilmington, NC/Hoggard HS) spread out the Louisburg offense as she made 46 total assists, while helping out on defense with 16 digs.

The 8-9, 6-8 in Region X, Lady Canes will play their final games of the 2013 regular season on Thursday when they travel to Guliford Tech to take on GTCC and Surry CC.  Both matches are conference contests with the SCC match starting at 4:00 pm and the GTCC match starting at 6:00 pm.
