Volleyball Splits Final Conference Matches
GREENSBORO, NC – The Louisburg College volleyball team closed out their 2013 regular season by splitting a pair of conference matches, Thursday night. LC won the opening match as they defeated Surry CC, 3-1, before dropping the nightcap, 3-2, to host team Guilford Tech CC. With the conference split, LC heads into the regional championship tournament with an overall record 9-10, 7-9 in Region X play.
Libero, Ashley Johnson (Wilson, NC/Wilson Hunt HS) played well in both conference matches as she made 17 digs against SCC and stepped things up with 28 digs in the loss to GTCC. Deborrah Bennett (Mount Olive, NC/Southern Wayne HS) led the way in kills on both side of the doubleheader as she had 29 total (17, 12). The outside hitter also played well defensively as she made 22 total digs (10, 12).
Brandy Johnson (Goldsboro, NC/Goldsboro HS) and Megan Ryals (Clayton, NC/Corinth Holders HS) played well off the bench in the Guilford match as Johnson had seven kills, while Ryals had a season high nine.
The Lady Canes will have to wait until this weekend to get their seeding and game times for the November 1-3 Region X Tournament as there are still teams playing, this weekend, that could decide the seeding.
