HICKORY, NC – The 7th seeded Louisburg College volleyball team opened up play at the 2013 Region X Tournament with a four set win over the #2 seed, Cape Fear CC, Friday afternoon.   

The Canes did a great job of keeping the ball off the floor and the superb defensive effort led to the 3-1 win. Libero, Ashley Johnson (Wilson, NC/Wilson Hunt HS) led the way with27 digs, while outside hitter Deborrah Bennett (Mount Olive, NC/Southern Wayne HS) had 20. Setter Ellen TooToo (Wilmington, NC/Hoggard HS) was also in double digits as she made 16 digs.

Rashawnda Pevey (Rocky Mount, NC/Southwest Edgecombe HS) led the offensive effort as she had a team high 14 kills which was just ahead of Bennett who had 12. Ashley Britton (Henrico, NC/Brunswick Academy) and Brandy Johnson (Goldsboro, NC/Goldsboro HS) were tough at the net as they had nine and seven kills, respectively.

The Lady Canes will return to the court tomorrow at noon where they will take on the #3 seed, Pasco Hernando CC (Dade City, FL).
