Baseball defeats Wake Tech 5-1
In an impressive pitching display and timely hitting, Louisburg College defeated Wake Technical Community College 5-1 on Friday. The Hurricanes were led by stellar performances on both the mound and at the plate, securing their victory with a well-rounded team effort.
Pitching Excellence from Henry Good
Louisburg's starting pitcher, Henry Good, was outstanding in his 7-inning outing, earning the win with a dominant performance. Good allowed just 6 hits, one earned run, and struck out 7 batters while walking only 1. His performance was backed up by relievers Harrison Lombardi and Anthony Jones, who combined for 2 scoreless innings to seal the win. Jones also earned the save (1), facing just two batters in the final frame and striking them both out.
Key Offensive Contributions
The Bears' offense came alive in the 2nd inning, where they put together a three-run rally. Jace Dunn led off the scoring with a double to center field, bringing Anthony Jones home. Nick LoBello followed with an RBI single, driving in Dunn, and Taiowa Costello capped the inning with an RBI single to score LoBello, giving Louisburg a 3-0 lead.
In the 5th inning, the Canes extended their advantage. LoBello, known for his speed, stole home to score a run, and Colin Cusick added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed Costello to tag up and score, pushing the lead to 5-0.
Wake Tech's lone run came in the 6th inning. Gaffney's RBI single brought in Rickabaugh, cutting Louisburg's lead to 5-1, but that would be all the offense Wake Tech could muster.
Standout Performances
Nick LoBello was a key contributor in the game, going 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI. His base-running skills were also on display, as he swiped two bags, including the steal of home. Costello, who had a multi-hit game, also contributed with an RBI and a pair of stolen bases.
Jace Dunn, who doubled in the 2nd inning, also drove in a run and played a crucial role in the scoring. His heads-up baserunning and timely hitting gave the Canes the early cushion they needed.
Defensive Notes
The Canes played solid defense, though they did commit one error. Evan Slawinski, the shortstop, was charged with the miscue, but the rest of the team was quick to back up the defense. The double play combo of Cusick and Troy Daniels was also sharp, helping to limit Wake Tech's offensive opportunities.
Final Score:
- Wake Technical Community College: 1 (1 Run, 6 Hits, 2 Errors)
- Louisburg College: 5 (5 Runs, 6 Hits, 1 Error)
