Baseball Sweeps SW Virginia 3-0 in Weekend Series

Louisburg College delivered a commanding performance over the weekend, sweeping a three-game series against Southwest Virginia in both close contests and high-scoring affairs. The Hurricanes combined timely hitting, strong pitching, and aggressive base running to notch their latest victories, improving their season record and making a strong statement heading into the final stretch.

Game 1: Hurricanes Edge Past SWVA in Pitchers' Duel, 3–2

In Friday's opener, Louisburg relied on small-ball tactics and defensive grit to grind out a 3–2 victory in a tight, low-scoring game.

Louisburg struck first in the third inning with a sacrifice fly from Green, scoring Kriner. The next inning, another sac fly—this time from Jones—brought Schaedel across for a 2–0 lead. Though Southwest Virginia trimmed the deficit in the fifth on a fielder's choice RBI by Joachim, the 'Canes added what turned out to be a crucial insurance run in the seventh, when LoBello reached on an error that allowed Kriner to score again.

Southwest Virginia mounted a late rally in the ninth with a Boyd RBI single, but Louisburg closed the door for the win behind solid pitching and error-free defense.

Game 2: Hurricanes Explode for 17 Runs in Five-Inning Rout

Saturday's game was a showcase of offensive firepower, as Louisburg dismantled Southwest Virginia 17–1 in a shortened five-inning game due to the run rule.

Louisburg jumped on SWVA early and often, putting up multi-run innings in the first four frames. Schaedel and Slawinski both homered, with Slawinski driving in three in a huge second inning. Green and Schaedel kept the rally going in the third and fourth, combining for multiple RBIs with a pair of doubles and singles. In total, Louisburg racked up 15 hits and capitalized on six SWVA errors.

On the mound, the Hurricanes were just as dominant, holding SWVA to one run on seven hits while playing clean, error-free baseball.

Game 3: Hurricanes Finish the Sweep with 15–5 Win

Louisburg completed the sweep in Sunday's series finale, taking a 15–5 win that saw offensive contributions from across the lineup.

Schaedel led the way again, driving in five runs, including a towering seventh-inning grand slam that sealed the blowout. Monsanto added a solo homer, while Cusick and Jones each drove in multiple runs as the Hurricanes piled on with big innings in the first, third, fifth, and seventh.

Despite a four-run seventh by SWVA that briefly narrowed the margin, Louisburg responded with six in the bottom half to slam the door. The Hurricanes collected 13 hits in the win and again took advantage of three Southwest Virginia errors.
