Hurricanes Break Through with 19-Run Outburst, Myers Earns First Win
The Louisburg College baseball team opened the 2026 season with a competitive but challenging three-game stretch, highlighted by a breakout offensive performance that secured the first win of the year—and the first victory for new head coach Bryce Myers.
After falling to Pitt Community College in the first two games of the season, the Hurricanes responded in a big way Wednesday afternoon at Frazier Field, exploding for a 19-9 win over Camp Community College.
Strong Offensive Signs Early
In the season opener against Pitt, the Hurricanes showed they could swing it. Louisburg pounded out 11 hits and launched four home runs in a 16-12 loss.
Jace Dunn led the charge with three hits, including a home run, while Payten Shipman, Camden Wilson, and Graham Wike each added a homer of their own. Connor Wright delivered two doubles in the contest, and Clifton Olmedo added a double and an RBI. The offensive firepower was evident, even if the final result didn't go their way.
The following day, Pitt's pitching staff kept the Hurricanes quiet in a 10-0 loss. Jack Merrell recorded Louisburg's lone hit, while Henry Good, Connor Wright, and Jordan Kempton logged innings on the mound as the team continued to work through early-season adjustments.
Sixth-Inning Surge Sparks First Win
Wednesday's matchup against Camp was a different story.
Louisburg broke the game open with an 11-run sixth inning, turning a competitive contest into a decisive 19-9 victory. The Hurricanes showcased both power and patience at the plate, drawing 10 walks and capitalizing on defensive miscues.
Brady Paul delivered a statement performance, finishing with two hits—including a home run and a double—while driving in six runs. He also scored four times and added a stolen base, igniting the Hurricanes' offense from the middle of the lineup.
Connor Wright continued his strong start to the season with a home run and two RBI. Payten Shipman added a double and drove in three runs, while Jace Dunn contributed a double and an RBI. Graham Wike tallied two hits, including a double, and Reese File set the tone at the top of the order by reaching base four times via walks and scoring four runs.
Behind the plate, Clifton Olmedo controlled the game defensively and added an RBI. Gavin Baucom and Hayden Fones also delivered key hits during the decisive sixth-inning rally.
On the mound, Jordan Kempton picked up the win in relief, allowing just one run over 1.1 innings. Michael Williams, Stephen Williams, and Cade Currin also saw action as the Hurricanes pieced together the staff effort.
Looking Ahead
Through three games, Louisburg has already shown its offensive potential, blasting six home runs and producing 31 runs in its first week of play. With the first win secured, the focus now shifts to consistency and building momentum.
The Hurricanes will return to Frazier Field this weekend for a home series against Southwest Virginia Community College. First pitch is set for Friday at 3 p.m., followed by a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
With Coach Myers' first win in the books, Louisburg will look to keep the bats hot and continue trending upward as the season gains steam.
