Hurricanes Battle Potomac State in Weekend Series at Frazier Field
Louisburg College baseball hosted WVU Potomac State College for a three-game weekend series at Frazier Field, earning a hard-fought win while showing flashes of offensive firepower throughout the set.
Game 1 – Potomac State 5, Louisburg 3
The Hurricanes dropped the series opener despite solid performances at the plate.
Gavin Baucom and Clifton Olmedo each connected for home runs, accounting for all three Louisburg runs. Olmedo drove in two, while Baucom added a solo shot. Brady Paul and Jace Dunn also recorded hits as Louisburg battled back early after falling behind.
On the mound, Simon Martone struck out seven over five innings, keeping the game within reach. Layton Babb added eight strikeouts in four innings of relief, but Potomac State capitalized on three home runs to secure the win.
Game 2 – Louisburg 6, Potomac State 5
The Hurricanes responded in game two with one of their most complete offensive efforts of the weekend, pounding out 15 hits in a 6-5 victory.
Graham Wike set the tone at the top of the lineup with three hits and an RBI. Connor Wright continued his strong season with two hits, including a home run, while Payten Shipman collected two hits and scored twice. Reese File drove in two runs, and Tayden Jackson added an RBI knock.
Anthony Dorner battled through four innings in the start, and Brendan Chamberlain delivered a key three-inning relief appearance to earn the win, holding Potomac State scoreless over the final frames to seal the victory.
Game 3 – Potomac State 16, Louisburg 12
Sunday's finale turned into an offensive shootout, with both teams trading big innings before Potomac State pulled away late.
Louisburg jumped out to an early 5-2 lead behind timely hitting. Clifton Olmedo launched a three-run homer and finished the day with five RBI. Connor Wright added three RBI, and Jace Dunn drove in two. Graham Wike recorded two doubles and scored three times, while Tayden Jackson contributed two hits.
The Hurricanes tallied 13 hits and drew seven walks, but Potomac State answered with 16 runs, including multiple late-inning surges.

Louisburg returns to Frazier Field on Wednesday, March 4, for a midweek matchup against Lenoir Community College. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. EST.
