Hurricanes Take Series from GTCC with Offensive Explosion in Finale
The Louisburg College baseball team hosted Guilford Technical Community College for a three-game weekend series at Frazier Field, earning two wins in the set and closing the weekend with a dominant offensive performance.
Game 1 – GTCC 7, Louisburg 2
Guilford Technical bounced back in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader to even the series.
Camden Wilson provided the highlight for Louisburg with a two-run home run that accounted for the Hurricanes' scoring. Graham Wike added two hits, and Steven Laurence collected two hits and a double.
Simon Martone started on the mound for Louisburg and struck out four in 4.2 innings of work before Layton Babb came on in relief and struck out five over the final 4.1 innings.
GTCC capitalized on timely hitting throughout the game, including a three-hit performance from Joseph Buckley.
Game 2 – Louisburg 8, GTCC 1
The Hurricanes opened the series with a strong all-around performance behind a complete game from Anthony Dorner.
Dorner worked all seven innings on the mound, allowing just four hits and one run while striking out seven to earn the win.
Louisburg broke the game open early with a five-run second inning. Brady Paul led the offense with two hits and three RBI, while Payten Shipman and Clifton Olmedo each drove in a run. Jace Dunn added an RBI double, and Reese File chipped in a hit and a run scored.
The Hurricanes finished with nine hits and used aggressive baserunning throughout the game, stealing multiple bases to keep pressure on the GTCC defense.
Game 3 – Louisburg 14, GTCC 4
Louisburg responded in a big way in Sunday's series finale, erupting for 14 runs on 18 hits to secure the series victory.
Jace Dunn led the offensive surge with four hits, including two home runs, and three RBI. Clifton Olmedo matched Dunn's four-hit performance and added a home run of his own with three RBI. Brady Paul continued his strong weekend at the plate with four hits and four RBI.
Steven Laurence added two hits and scored three runs, while Payten Shipman recorded two hits and two runs scored. Reese File and Graham Wike also contributed key hits as the Hurricanes kept pressure on GTCC pitching throughout the game.
Louisburg scored in five of the six innings they came to the plate, including a five-run sixth inning that put the game out of reach.
Henry Good earned the win on the mound, striking out seven over 5.1 innings. Brendan Chamberlain finished the game in relief.
