Hurricanes Split Doubleheader with Catawba Valley Before Falling in Series Finale
The Louisburg College baseball team hosted Catawba Valley Community College for a three-game series at Frazier Field over the weekend. The Hurricanes picked up a convincing win in the opener of Saturday's doubleheader but dropped the final two games of the series.
Game 1 – Louisburg 9, Catawba Valley 1
Louisburg opened the weekend with one of its most complete performances of the season, defeating the Red Hawks 9–1 behind a strong pitching outing and a balanced offensive attack.
The Hurricanes jumped on the board with a four-run second inning and never looked back.
Clifton Olmedo led the offense with three hits, including a home run, and two RBI. Steven Laurence added a three-run homer and finished with three RBI of his own, while Brady Paul collected three hits and drove in two runs.
Additional contributions came from Camden Wilson, Jace Dunn, and Reese File, each recording key hits as Louisburg finished with 15 hits in the victory.
On the mound, Simon Martone delivered a dominant start, working 5.2 innings while allowing just one run and striking out nine. Layton Babb closed out the game with 2.1 scoreless innings to secure the win.
Game 2 – Catawba Valley 9, Louisburg 3
The Red Hawks responded in the second game of the doubleheader, pulling away with a big fourth inning on their way to a 9–3 win.
Louisburg was held in check early before breaking through in the fifth inning. Graham Wike, Brady Paul, and Reese File each drove in runs during the rally. Paul continued his strong day at the plate with three hits, while Steven Laurence added two hits.
Anthony Dorner started on the mound for the Hurricanes and struck out eight over 4.1 innings. Brendan Chamberlain and Camden Wilson provided relief as Louisburg worked to keep the game within reach.
Game 3 – Catawba Valley 15, Louisburg 12
Sunday's series finale turned into a high-scoring back-and-forth contest, with the Hurricanes collecting 18 hits but ultimately falling 15–12.
Louisburg came out swinging early, scoring three runs in each of the first three innings to build a 9–3 lead.
Jace Dunn paced the Hurricanes offense with four hits, including a home run, and three RBI. Brady Paul added three hits and two RBI, while Camden Wilson and Connor Wright each contributed two hits. Reese File also added two hits and an RBI as Louisburg continued to apply pressure throughout the game.
Despite the early lead, Catawba Valley rallied with a five-run seventh inning and added insurance runs late to complete the comeback.
Series Notes
Louisburg's offense showed plenty of firepower throughout the weekend, totaling 40 hits across the three games. Dunn, Paul, Olmedo, and Laurence all had strong series performances, helping lead the Hurricanes lineup.
