Hurricanes Sweep Southwest Virginia Behind Dominant Offensive Weekend

The Louisburg College baseball team put together one of its most complete weekends of the season, sweeping a three-game road series at Southwest Virginia Community College behind explosive offense and strong pitching performances.

Game 1 – Louisburg 8, Southwest Virginia 5

The Hurricanes opened the series with a strong all-around performance, building an early lead and holding off a late push to secure the win.

Louisburg scored in four of the first seven innings to take control, highlighted by solo home runs from Connor Wright and Steven Laurence early in the game.

Steven Laurence led the offense with a perfect 4-for-4 performance, scoring three runs and driving in one. Connor Wright added two hits including a home run, while Reese File contributed two hits and two runs scored. Graham Wike delivered a key two-RBI double in the seventh to extend the lead.

On the mound, Simon Martone was dominant, tossing six shutout innings while allowing just five hits and striking out five. Louisburg carried an 8–0 lead into the late innings before Southwest Virginia scored five runs in the eighth and ninth, but the Hurricanes were able to close it out.

Game 2 – Louisburg 14, Southwest Virginia 3

Louisburg carried that momentum into game two, using a balanced offensive attack and aggressive baserunning to pull away for a 14–3 victory.

The Hurricanes broke the game open with a four-run third inning and continued to add on throughout the game.

Graham Wike scored three times and added an RBI, while Jace Dunn went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a run driven in. Clifton Olmedo continued his strong weekend with two hits and two RBI, and Gavin Baucom scored three runs and drove in another.

Louisburg also showcased its speed, swiping multiple bases and applying pressure throughout the game. Taco Ferguson added a two-RBI double late, and Hayden Fones contributed an RBI double in the seventh.

On the mound, Henry Good set the tone with three scoreless innings, while Camden Wilson followed with two shutout frames. Isaac Bennett closed the game to secure the win.

Game 3 – Louisburg 11, Southwest Virginia 0 (5 innings)

The Hurricanes capped off the weekend in dominant fashion, shutting out Southwest Virginia 11–0 in a run-rule victory.

Louisburg erupted for five runs in the second inning and followed with five more in the third to put the game out of reach early.

Clifton Olmedo delivered the biggest swing of the game with a grand slam, finishing with four RBI. Graham Wike added a two-run home run, and Payten Shipman connected on a solo shot as the Hurricanes powered their way to the win.

Reese File added a two-RBI double, while Cade Currin contributed both on the mound and at the plate, recording an RBI double and scoring twice.

On the mound, Cade Currin was outstanding, throwing four scoreless innings and allowing just three hits while striking out four. Reese File closed the game with a clean inning to complete the shutout.

Series Takeaways

Louisburg's offense was the story of the weekend, scoring 33 runs across three games while getting production throughout the lineup. The Hurricanes combined power hitting with aggressive baserunning and timely situational hitting.

On the mound, Louisburg's starters set the tone in each game, allowing the Hurricanes to play from ahead and control the tempo of the series.

With the sweep, the Hurricanes continue to build momentum as they head into the next stretch of the schedule.
