Hurricanes Sweep GTCC Behind Big Bats and Strong Relief Efforts
The Louisburg College baseball team put together a complete weekend on the road, sweeping Guilford Technical Community College in a three-game series behind timely hitting, late-inning execution, and strong performances on the mound.
Game 1 – Louisburg 7, GTCC 5
The Hurricanes opened the series with a come-from-behind win, using a six-run sixth inning to flip the game.
Trailing 4–2, Louisburg capitalized on walks and clutch hitting to take control. Clifton Olmedo delivered the big blow with a two-RBI double, part of a three-RBI day, while Payten Shipman added two RBI and scored twice.
Reese File chipped in two hits and a triple, and Camden Wilson added an RBI as the Hurricanes manufactured runs throughout the lineup.
On the mound, Simon Martone was outstanding in relief, tossing five innings and allowing just one run while striking out six to earn the win and stabilize the game after a tough stretch.
Game 2 – Louisburg 8, GTCC 7
Game two tested Louisburg early, as the Hurricanes fell behind 7–2 through two innings before mounting a complete comeback.
The rally started in the third when Jace Dunn launched a two-run home run, and Louisburg continued to chip away before taking the lead for good in the fourth.
Dunn led the way with four RBI, while Graham Wike scored three times and drove in two, including a key triple. Camden Wilson added two RBI, and Brady Paul collected two hits as the Hurricanes pieced together runs across multiple innings.
After the early damage, the pitching staff shut the door. Anthony Dorner delivered 4.2 scoreless innings in relief, allowing just three hits and striking out four to earn the win, while Camden Wilson closed the game with a clean final inning.
Game 3 – Louisburg 10, GTCC 1
The Hurricanes completed the sweep in dominant fashion, using power hitting and strong pitching to roll to a 10–1 win.
Brady Paul led the offense with two home runs and six RBI, including a two-run shot in the first and a grand slam in the fifth that broke the game open.
Reese File added two hits and two RBI, while Clifton Olmedo chipped in two hits and a run driven in. Graham Wike reached base multiple times and added an RBI, as Louisburg continued to get production up and down the lineup.
On the mound, Cade Currin was sharp, throwing six innings and allowing just one run on four hits while striking out four. Michael Williams closed the game with a scoreless inning to seal the win.
Series Takeaways
Louisburg's ability to respond stood out all weekend. The Hurricanes rallied in both of the first two games and then controlled the finale from start to finish.
The bullpen played a major role in the sweep, combining for multiple scoreless innings in both Game 1 and Game 2, while the offense consistently delivered in key moments.
