Louisburg College Fortnite Team Finishes Top 8 Nationally in NJCAAE Championship Tournament

LOUISBURG, N.C. — The Louisburg College Esports Fortnite team capped off a stellar season with a Top 8 national finish in the NJCAAE National Championship Tournament, continuing to build on the growing success of the Hurricanes Esports program.

Louisburg entered the postseason after an outstanding regular season, finishing with an 8–3 record and ranked #11 nationally in the NJCAAE standings. Their consistency and competitive fire throughout the season earned them a #4 seed heading into the national championship bracket.

“This group has been locked in from day one,” said Head Esports Coach Michael Statum. “They’ve worked tirelessly to improve every week, and qualifying fourth in the nation is a direct reflection of their dedication and drive. I couldn’t be prouder of how they’ve represented Louisburg College and our esports program.”

The Hurricanes’ Fortnite roster features standout players Zachary Deemer — the #1 ranked player in the North Carolina High School Fortnite League (VESL) prior to joining Louisburg — along with Najad Daniels, who not only excels in competition but also serves as Vice President of the Louisburg College Student Government Association, and Andy Mocombe, a consistent performer known for his composure and clutch play in high-pressure moments.

Playoff Recap

Louisburg opened the NJCAAE National Championship Tournament with a thrilling 2–1 victory over Seward County Community College.
The Hurricanes dominated Game 1 with a 25–7 win before dropping Game 2 by a narrow 7–5 margin. In a decisive Game 3, Louisburg came out on top 6–5 to advance to the second round.

In the quarterfinals, the #4 Hurricanes faced #5 Forsyth Technical Community College. Forsyth struck first with a 17–15 win in the opening game, but Louisburg responded strongly, taking Game 2 by a score of 6–3 to force a deciding match. In another nail-biter, Forsyth edged out a 9–8 victory, ending Louisburg’s postseason run.

Despite the tough loss, the Hurricanes secured a Top 8 finish nationally, marking one of the program’s best postseason performances to date.

“This team has set the bar for what Louisburg Esports can achieve,” Coach Statum said. “Their growth, leadership, and commitment to excellence have been incredible to witness. We’re proud of what they accomplished and excited for what’s next.”
