Set for Jimmy Goldston Classic
This weekend Louisburg College men's basketball will host the Jimmy Goldston Classic.
Jimmy Goldston was born in 1929 in Goldston, North Carolina and soon moved to Raleigh where he lived until his death in 2021. Goldston attended both Campbell College and North Carolina State University. He was a history teacher and football coach before becoming an umpire and referee in the early 1950s. He officiated from high school to the ACC, as well as officiating numerous Louisburg College baseball and basketball games during his career. Goldston also opened several businesses including College Paint and Body Work (1958), Mae's Country Kitchen, and Backhoe Service of Raleigh.
He helped countless people throughout his life; and though he did not seek the limelight, because of generosity towards Louisburg College Athletics, the opening weekend basketball classic now bears his name.
The schedule for the weekend is as follows:
Friday at 5:00 pm - Wake Tech vs. Hagerstown
Friday at 7:00 pm - Louisburg vs. Spartanburg Methodist
Saturday at 1:00 pm - Wake Tech vs. Spartanburg Methodist
